As Managing Director, Peter Vandeleur is the driving force behind NewMerino.

Having grown up on a 3,600 ha (9,000 acres) sheep farm he developed a good understanding of farming and livestock issues. This knowledge was further developed when he owned a small farm while living and working in a decentralised location.

The first major component of his working life was in manufacturing and marketing as a director of the Australian division of a major US consumer goods company.

Since becoming involved in the wool industry he has held positions in both small and large wool brokerage businesses including Elders as National Development Manager with responsibility for the implementation of his ClipCare quality integrity program.

Following three years with Elders he established an innovative brokerage business named e-wool and it was from this platform that the concept of NewMerino was conceived.

Since its inception he has been heavily involved in all aspects of its design, development and documentation to a standard where it has achieved verification by an international certification body.

During this time, he has served on the Textile Exchange Responsible Wool Standard Advisory Committee.

The company and the concepts were first developed in 2007 to address continuing complaints from processors about quality issues in the supply of raw wool.

Since that time, it has developed into a verification system providing assurance to brands about on farm standards for animal welfare, land management and provides provenance via full traceability from individual farms through to spinning and beyond.
