Our Role

NewMerino® sees its role as one of encouraging the development and growth of good animal welfare and land management practices on Australian merino farms by facilitating the availability of merino fibre from farms which meet the Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) codes of brands and retailers.

This is achieved by providing a vehicle through which brands and retailers can communicate their CSR requirements back to individual growers acting as their suppliers.

And, by providing an independently managed certification service and ‘chain of custody’ through which supply can be made in a cooperative and transparent manner.

NewMerino® does not attempt to be the expert or standard setter in all areas but rather, cooperates with other specialist organisations in the fields of breeding, animal welfare and land management to draw together the necessary skills, procedures and accreditation processes to achieve and document the agreed objectives.
