Global Merino Production by Country

Australia has traditionally produced approximately 80% of merino wool used in apparel.

Merino production has declined in all major producing countries since 1990.

The two charts identify the proportion of merino wool produced by the major merino growing countries.

The data is sourced from ABARE (Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics) who in turn have sourced it from the relevant authorities in each country Argentina, Uruguay and South Africa. New Zealand information was sourced from the New Zealand Wool Testing Authority.
